"I stood gazing out into the sea, my desperate cries lost in the wind. Debris and the salt spray from below stinging my eyes, but I thought I saw something out there.
The black waters churned as if in anticipation.

They'd buried their dead here, along the cliff's edge, just as our ancestors had a thousand years before. They had known then what we were only just learning; that the sea was a liminal place. A place where our shores ended, and the other realm began.

That night I dreamt the stars sank beneath the waves, and they wait there shining."

The Carved Cliffs is an album inspired by the the "Island of Death" paintings by Arnold Bocklin, the ancient cliff top burial mounds of Southern England, and by the nameless gods that walked in our prehistory...
